The U.S. Department of Justice announced that its Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) has released $25 million in new grant Notices of Funding Opportunities to support law enforcement. The funding opportunities announced on July 21, 2026, follow nearly $700 million in COPS Office Notices of Funding Opportunities released in June.

The new opportunities include the Safer Outcomes: Enhancing Crisis Response Training for Law Enforcement Program and programs focused on producing products and resources, providing technical assistance, and establishing or supporting accreditation bodies. The programs are intended to advance crime fighting, support common sense policing efforts, assist agencies and communities through training and consultation, and increase the number of accredited law enforcement agencies nationwide.

Associate Attorney General Stanley E. Woodward Jr. said the additional funding programs demonstrate the Department’s commitment to “safer neighborhoods, smarter strategies, and stronger partnerships across the country.”

Funding opportunities

  • Safer Outcomes: Enhancing Crisis Response Training for Law Enforcement supports agency-wide deescalation training, including train-the-trainer and overtime costs, in partnership with academies, academic institutions, and POST commissions. Up to $13 million will be available.
  • Community Policing Development Law Enforcement Products and Resources supports nationally distributed guidance, research, innovative strategies, and approaches intended to advance crime fighting, support common sense policing, prevent crime, promote safe communities, and uplift the image of the law enforcement profession. Up to $6 million will be available.
  • The Collaborative Reform Initiative offers technical assistance and critical-response services intended to highlight law enforcement best practices, enhance officer safety and wellness, build agency capacity for self-improvement and effectiveness, and promote community policing practices nationwide. Up to $4.2 million will be available.
  • Community Policing Development Accreditation Program supports new and existing accreditation bodies in states and territories throughout the United States. Eligible activities include technical assistance, accreditation costs for local agencies, customer service and marketing, and user-friendly policy templates. Up to $2.5 million will be available.

The Community Policing Development Law Enforcement Products and Resources opportunity identifies high-priority topics including human trafficking, gang violence, immigration and border security, child exploitation, cybercrime, opioids and drug markets, officer recruitment and retention, domestic terrorism, unmanned aerial systems and drones, vagrancy and squatting, and violent crime. The Collaborative Reform Initiative has two funding opportunities: one with Collaborative Reform Technical Assistance Center and Critical Response subcategories, and an invitational opportunity open only to applicants that receive an invitation to apply.

The COPS Office is the Justice Department component responsible for advancing community policing and supporting state, local, territorial, and Tribal law enforcement agencies through information and grant resources.
